eSIM setup guide (Android)

This guide explains the setup procedure on an Xperia SOG08 (Android 12).
Please make sure the Android OS version and the SIM manager on the device you plan to use are up to date.

 *Before you start

  •  To download and set up your eSIM,a Wi-Fi connection is required。
  • If you set it up by scanning a QR code, you will need[a second device to display the QR code]or[a printout of the QR code].
  • If you are asked for a password during setup, enter the [device passcode] you set yourself.
  • If you delete the details of an eSIM once it has been installed,it can only be reinstalled on [the same device]. Please note that it cannot be used on a different device.

*For those travelling to Japan from overseas

  • Our eSIM starts counting from the day you begin using the connection, so we recommend that you set up the eSIMbefore you travel.
  • While you are in Japan, be sure to turn off the setting below so that your own carrier does not bill you.
    Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > tap the name of your primary SIM >turn off Roaming

 

01Activation steps (Android)

01:

Connect the device to a network such as Wi-Fi, then open Settings from the home screen.

Tap SIM cards & mobile data or Network & internet.

Tap the + next to Mobile network, or tap SIMs or Manage eSIM.

At the bottom, tap Download a SIM instead or Don't have a SIM card?

 

 

04:

Tap Next.

 

05:

Set it up either by scanning the QR code or by entering the details manually.

To set up by scanning the QR code　
  go to 5-1 

To set up by entering the details manually
  go to 5-2

5-1: Setting up by scanning the QR code

On a device other than the one you will use the eSIM on, tap the URL in the email to display the QR code.

*To scan a QR code you need a second device in addition to the one the eSIM will be used on. If you cannot arrange a second device, please see "5-2: Setting up by entering the details manually".

 

5-2: Setting up by entering the details manually

Once the camera opens, tap Enter code manually. On some devices this appears as Help (bottom left) > Enter it myself. 

Check the [eSIM code] in the email we send you after purchase, then copy and paste it in.

Tap Activate or Download to start installing the eSIM.

 

07:

Once the download has finished, go on to "Configuring the APN" below.

Next, configure the APN.

02Configuring the APN (Android)

01:

Under SIM cards & mobile data or Network & internet, tap the eSIM you downloaded (shown as M).

 

02:

Tap Access Point Names.

 

03:

Tap the + at the top right.

 

04:

Enter the APN details below in the APN field.

*On some devices you cannot save the entry with the username and password left blank. In that case, please enter any value.

    The APN settings for each product are given in the email you receive after purchase.

     *Example: for a plan for Japan

  • Name: any value (e.g. esim) 　
  • APN ： m-air.jp
  • Username: leave blank
  • Password: leave blank
  • Authentication type: PAP or CHAP


 

05:

When you have finished entering the APN, tap Save at the top right.

 

 

06:

Check that the APN you saved is selected.

Check that the signal indicator shows 4G or LTE.

 

That completes the eSIM setup.
